I had tickets and reservations et al, however my business schedule got very busy and am in Singapore every 5-6 weeks. Unfortunately, I decided that my next trip to Singapore was too close to the reunion and I'd miss too much time from my work. Please give my best to everyone, let them know I'll be there in spirit, and I'll call Phyliss or Frances on cell during one of the nites, try to catch up with people even if it's only on the phone. I miss doing triathlons with you. I did one this year as a team with my two daughters and it was really nice. I don't know if I told you when I spoke, but I had been on Vioxx for 20 months, had heart issues as a result and had an angioplasty and stent implanted in one of my heart arteries in Feb. this year. Went well, and doing great now, but a few weeks after that procedure I ended up in the emergency room, nearly died from internal bleeding, blood pressure was 57/40...took 6 units of blood and some surgery to cauterize the bleeding. Recovered very well thought and this year I'm feeling almost like 20 years ago. Lost 25 lbs. I put on since my cervical fusion 2 1/2 years ago and am in shape again. But like you, running isn't something I can do like I used to, knees...do some, but not the same. I hope you say hello to everyone and I get a chance to you this weekend. I recently was talking to Skip Dalrymple, and he mentioned he had been in contact with you. I have been busy with my new company in Seattle, found a house, moved, and waiting for the school year to end for the rest of the family to join me here in the Emerald City. I recently had surgery, old Marine Corps injury came back to haunt me, and had a cervical vertebrae fusion...a pain in the neck. My arm and hand went numb on me as well as alot of continuous pain. On the road to recovery, been in a neck brace for 7 weeks following surgery and have 2 more months in the brace ahead of me. I can't wait to swim, bike, and run again. Hope all is going well with you. In the 70's had hair hair hair, disgusted with Nixon, enjoyed post-Marine Corps rebellion. Raced professional motocross 72 thru 76, broke a few bones. Hangar Club Go-Go guy 74 through 77, God what was I thinking? Went though the Disco era with my nose intact but cut my hair all the way down to a 'Fro-- again where were my brains? Spent 17 years with Sperry Corp/Unisys. In '87 did Tampa Bay Triathlon with Greg Cunningham. Been high-tech my whole career ultimately leading me to working in World Trade Center Tower One until just weeks before the attack and collapse, God works in mysterious ways! I Love NY! Started my own company iTech Management LLC after many years as Chief Information Officer in Healthcare and Airlines industries. Working for the Government as a Contract Specialist in the Acquisition Workforce, and the Fiscal Year ending (30 September) on Sunday next year, I'm guaranteed to be in the office doing overtime till who knows what time. This past FY ended on Saturday and all were here till past midnight. With next year's ending on Sunday I don't know if management will make it mandatory to complete all actions on Saturday or Sunday. Nevertheless, the 28th and 29th will be the worst time of year for me. I'm really, really sorry. I still might be able to participate and enjoy in a smaller capacity. Notes: Kilauea, HI 96754 8/7/00: Hey Greg! It's great to make contact after 36 years!!! I left Quantico the summer after graduation for Sunnyvale, Calif. where my Dad had bought a house to settle in upon his retirement. I was on the West coast for 4 years before moving to Hawaii in '68 and lived on Oahu first for a year then to Kauai, where I've been since. Before moving to Hawaii I had a girlfriend Jill that I traveled to Central America with for a year who changed my name to "Charlie", ( my middle name is Charles, but she didn't know it) because upon meeting she said " You look like a Charlie to me". I've been married and divorced twice, with 3 kids, Lila 21, Alex 19, and Tamra 15. Both of my ex's live in the same small town as me, Kilauea, Pop. 900. We all own our own homes (within three blocks of each other), I share mine with my girlfriend Amy, I had to buy mine back from my first wife Terry as she was awarded it in the settlement. We see each other almost daily and get along amazingly well. When I arrived on Kauai it was a small rural tropical island with sugar cane and pineapple as the economic basis. I opened the first fruit stand and at the end of the 1st year I had grossed a million dollars. At which point my accountant advised me to open another store and the spiral went on and on with another store, a couple of restaurants and a bar along the way. Then, my wife at the time Terry, wanted a divorce and was granted everything because her lawyer argued that she should be able to live in the style she has been accustomed to! I met her when she was here as a tourist on vacation right after her graduation from college. At that point a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to come and work for him in his construction business, building custom homes, so I gave it a shot and found out that I had a knack for it. Then the hurricane hit (Iniki) and the Manager of the National Wildlife Refuge down the street from my home asked if I could help them with the restoration process and I've been there ever since working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in one capacity or another. I'm exactly one mile away from the office, which happens to be the most beautiful spot on this island and it takes me two minutes to get to work! Have you been to Hawaii before? Lived/worked in England, France, Italy, and Australia. Retired in 1997 and am now in grad school and teaching at the University of Washington. Graduated from Gonzaga University in Spokane. I'd have to say that my only notable accomplishment was surviving my 20's and staying out of prison. 8/24/00: Hi Greg, John and I have pretty much stayed in contact with the same folks, mostly class of '68, so I doubt that I know anyone that John hasn't updated you on. I visited QHS the year before last, and was amazed at how emotionally affected I was to be there even after all this time. A big bunch of us were transferred from Quantico to Pendleton in '66 when our dads went over to Vietnam. We all graduated from either Fallbrook, Oceanside or Vista high schools. It seems we all pretty much thought they sucked after QHS. Anyway, I eventually wound up as a teeny tiny partner in a venture capital group (Charter-House Rothschild in London and the Advent Funds in Boston) on the development side and spent 20 years developing sales and distribution networks in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Oceania for 3 separate deals that we built and sold to strategic investors; James Hardie Industries Pty. Ltd (Australia), Black & Decker and Owens Corning. I retired in '97 and decided to teach college. I got my undergrad degree from Gonzaga U. and am working on the terminal degree at the U of Washington while teaching undegrad courses right now. Notes: 8/15/2001: I remember meeting and talking with your wife, Jerrie. You're a lucky man Greg Cunningham!! Please tell Jim and Pat that I said hello.(and the two Mikes) Are they coming to the reunion? I must admit that I scanned the notes quickly to see if those two were still together and was elated to find it so. Time changes so much - including marriage status. Come to think of it, you and Jim were both extremely lucky to have such great gals take you on for life! I remember the stories about the water balloons too and the midnight rides on the subway that you guys didn't think I was aware of. Would I take a group of today's teenagers to New York for a week? No way. And to think I was only 23-25 years old when I was chaperoning seniors on that trip! I was always extremely proud of the behavior of my "kids." I'll keep loggin on to keep up with news. Seems like most of the news comes from people who graduated after '66 which was my last year there. Love to all, Becky 8/15/2001: Hi Greg, God surely works in mysterious ways! Imagine that I would pick up a copy of the Fauquier Times- Democrat in Warrenton, VA and see a story about Craig Carscallen who is assuming a position as Principal of the county's alternative high school! (In fact, I have saved the story and will send a copy to you.)I have been a resident of Warrenton for 11 years and haven't encountered anyone I knew from QHS. Now that I see the addresses on the Classmates Web site I realize that you all moved south or west! I quickly called Craig after seeing the story to verify that it was the same Craig Carscallen I knew in the 60's. We had a couple of good laughs - can't wait to see him in person. I did not have Craig as a student in class but he was in my homeroom. His Dad was a favorite mentor!He quickly told me about the reunion and hooked me up with the Web site! I am so excited about the prospect of seeing many of you in October. You can bet Ray and I will be there, at least for Saturday night. I will get a check to Polly right away as I have spent a lifetime planning events and know what a tough job she has assumed. Do you think anyone will remember all of the fundraising the Senior class had to do to fund the New York trip? Things like selling candy, etc. at all of those Marine Corps football games and back at QHS between classes. Does anyone remember the night Bill Warren spit off the side of the Empire State Building? I may be getting old but I sure remember some great times with the best high school students I encountered in 17 years of teaching in VA, Missouri, Ohio and New Jersey. That's a statemnt straight from the heart! I am thrilled to have Bill Marshall's address. One of my brothers lives in Salem so I will definitely see Bill when I go there! I am also saddened at some of the names I read in the "In Memoriam" section. Seeing Rachel's name there makes me think how happy she would be that you guys are still hanging together. Ray took a transfer back to the National Archives in Washington in June of 1989 so that we could live close to Rachel. Her health really began to fail about three years prior to that when she became a kidney dialysis patient. She never gave up and continued to fight until the day she died on August 10, 1989. We were so glad that Ray had moved in with her those last two months. Rachel never lost her love for teaching - continued to tutor kids, at no charge, until just a few months before her death. Our oldest son eulogized her perfectly when he said, "My grandmother always told me that she didn't care which side of the desk she was on when she died - she could be the teacher or the student!" Her life was a testament not only to her teaching but her constant search for knowledge. Memories of the wonderful years she spent teaching students at Quantico High school remained a constant delight. I taught for 17 years as we moved around the country but never enjoyed the experience as much as my first three years of of my teaching career - spent at Quantico. I learned a lot from Marine families. I learned most of all that my children would survive if we moved several times - not only survive but prosper. I also tried to instill the values I learned from Marine families in my two sons.I believe they turned out great just as most of you did! I have been Director of Communications at NOVEC, an electric cooperative in Manassas, for 10 years. I am in charge of all publications and public relations events, including lobbying in the Virginia legislature and on Capitol Hill on issues that affect cooperatives. I'm still learning a lot! Ray and I are looking forward to retirement in a couple of years. We want to spend more time with the adorable grandchildren - two boys, ages 1 and 3 in New Jersey, and a precious one-year-old little girl in Oakton, about 30 minutes north of us.It is truly exciting to be around them, even if it is a bit exhausting! The e-mail address that I gave you is my work address. We will soon be getting DSL by satellite at home. When that happens I will change my address as I don't particularly want to have everything directed to work. Thank you Greg for your efforts for so many years to keep a line of communication open for QHS folks. It is so important! As I continue to check over names on the list, more memories return. Her health really began to fail about three years prior to that when she became a kidney dialysis patient. She never gave up and continued to fight until the day she died on August 10, 1989. We were so glad that Ray had moved in with her those last two months. Rachel never lost her love for teaching - continued to tutor kids, at no charge, until just a few months before her death. Our oldest son eulogized her perfectly when he said, "My grandmother always told me that she didn't care which side of the desk she was on when she died - she could be the teacher or the student!" Her life was a testament not only to her teaching but her constant search for knowledge. Memories of the wonderful years she spent teaching students at Quantico High school remained a constant delight. I taught for 17 years as we moved around the country but never enjoyed the experience as much as my first three years of of my teaching career - spent at Quantico. I learned a lot from Marine families. I learned most of all that my children would survive if we moved several times - not only survive but prosper. I also tried to instill the values I learned from Marine families in my two sons.I believe they turned out great just as most of you did! I have been Director of Communications at NOVEC, an electric cooperative in Manassas, for 10 years. I am in charge of all publications and public relations events, including lobbying in the Virginia legislature and on Capitol Hill on issues that affect cooperatives. I'm still learning a lot! Ray and I are looking forward to retirement in a couple of years. We want to spend more time with the adorable grandchildren - two boys, ages 1 and 3 in New Jersey, and a precious one-year-old little girl in Oakton, about 30 minutes north of us.It is truly exciting to be around them, even if it is a bit exhausting! Life has been so hectic since Hurricane Katrina that I have not had a chance to check my personal e-mail. Let me give you a quick update. When I retired from the Marine Corp a little less than 2 yrs. ago, I got a good job in New Orleans. We had lived there from '98-'01 when I was the senior military guy in town and we made a lot of great friends. When we returned, we bought an old big, run down house in the Garden District of town and have been involved in a major renovation ever since. We were within two weeks of finishing the 20 mo. renovation when Hurricane Katrina arrived. We evacuated to Atlanta initially where my daughter and her family live. After the hurricane passed, my wife jane went to West Palm Beach to nusre her mother who had a hip replacement operation and I went to Baton Rouge to reconstitute our company business. Baton Rouge has been like a gold rush town. It doubled in population in 4 days. Those of us who moved in have all been looking for the same things--temporary housing, office space, office furniture and telephone and internet hook ups. I have finally got our temporary offices up and going and we have about two thirds of our people back to work (I'm a senior executive for an IT services company that mainly does federal contracts). Right now I kind of feel like I'm back in the Marines on an unaccompanied deployment. I am really sorry to miss the reunion. You are great to keep up. 9/16/2005: Talked to Ann Mize-Cuseo in HI. David and Janie had just renovated their house in New Orleans when Katrina hit. They think it did not flood, but they haven't seen the property yet. I e-mailed David at above address to let him know about Reunion. 9/13/2005: Got a tip that David retired to New Orleans just before Katrina. Found a new listing for same name/spouse, age. See new address above. NA when I tried to call. 9/6/2005: Received returned Reunion invitation without forwarding address. 4/10/2003: Greg, thanks for the kind note. Preparing for a Presidential visit is quite an effort in this security evnvironment. But the work was well worth it as the President really gave a morale "shot in the arm" to our Marines and the families of our deployed personnel. It was a treat to be able to spend about three hours with President and Mrs Bush -- riding in the Presidential limo was a kick. With President Bush what you see is what you get -- he is easy to talk to and a regular guy. Best of luck to you. Dave 4/3/2003: Today, I saw Maj. Gen.
